Commemorating March 15 the International Day against Islamophobia
In recent years Islamophobia became one of the most important issues that could threaten the world peace. Islamophobia, discrimination against Muslims, like racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism, is considered a global ideology of hate speech, and we all have a common responsibility to raise this issue on every platform in the world scale. Islamophobia literary means fear of Islam, a fear that is fake and aims to pit Islam against other civilizations. Recognizing the phenomenon of Islamophobia as one of the most important problems facing by Muslim world is crucial. To identify the cause and take preventive measures is an important duty for Muslim world. Discrimination, prejudice and false fear of Islam and Muslims, is called Islamophobia, which has been noticed by the United Nations. In 2022, the United Nations issued a resolution declared March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia and asked the nations to take clear measure to combat hatred, discrimination and violence against Muslims around the world.   The wrong perception of Islam, which is caused by the Western media propaganda affects the extreme right-wing groups in the West, causes harm to Muslims, creates a sense of hostility against them, and threatens and humiliates Muslims in the European societies. This increasing trend against Muslims in the European societies ranges from microaggressions until big threats and most of these hate speeches occur in social media platforms. In many cases, Islamophobic and hate- mongering attacks against Muslims are not reported, and European countries do not report this properly. By raising public awareness and cooperating with governments, not only this ugly phenomenon could be alleviated, but the image of Muslims will be improved in the western countries and Islamophobia will disappear.   Education is a powerful tool for promoting mutual understanding, breaking stereotypes and dispelling misconceptions about Islam and Muslim society. By providing accurate information about Islam and Muslim society, we can challenge negative narratives and promote greater understanding and respect. Muslims themselves are also another effective solution to fight against Islamophobia. This includes the contributions of Muslims to the western society in the fields of science, technology, literature, and art. By promoting positive narratives, we can challenge negative stereotypes and contribute to create a more inclusive and tolerant society. Another effective solution to fight against Islamophobia is to promote inter-religious forums, cultural exchanges, interfaith dialogues between different cultures and religions in order to present the Muslims beautiful culture to the rest of the world.   Further, Iran and Malaysia as two important Muslim countries can draw a new horizon for bilateral and multilateral cooperation to combat Islamophobia. Both countries can utilize their capacity and capabilities to take effective steps in producing narratives of Islamic unity to combat the false beliefs about Islam on the world stage, cultural, academic and scientific collaboration of both countries will create an atmosphere of regional and international discourse which can contribute constructively to combat Islamophobia. Iran strongly supports the Malaysia’s measures in this regard.
